I tried installing 7.1 yesterday. Contrary to what the press stuff says, the server DOES NOT run under Vista. It installs fine, but the Workstation install hangs. I'm very angry at Gavel and Gown. They seem to be in complete denial (although the very nice tech support person who revealed the truth to me said that many people were calling). I think this constitutes serious misrepresentation on Amicus' part, and I feel like I've been cheated out of $399 (plus $29 shipping). No answer to my email to the sales folks either. No offers to refund my money.

Send me your contact info. Gavel & Gown is really good about addressing these issues and I know we can reach a resolution. I did not think that Amicus 7 Server could be install on Vista, especially since Gavel & Gown says: Amicus Server is not supported under Vista. However, Amicus Workstation is supported, provided that it is not installed in the Program Files folder. Existing Workstation installs must be moved. For instructions, see the Moving Amicus document for Amicus Attorney 7.

Our experience with amicus 7.1 has been awful. It is an enormous resource hog on our Windows XP system and crashes itself and the individual workstations quite regularly. Because of that, we cannot rely on the note function of the program. The old edition worked reasonably well and actually had instructions written in English, not ambiguous hieroglyphics (we lawyers DO read you know ).
We rely on the internal notes to alert us of deadlines and internal mail. The new version hides your messages after a few seconds. It is useless. Worse than that, it is dangerous. We have found these notes to be incredibly slow and unreliable and I shut down the program to avoid interference to my workstation.
More profanity has been generated in our office over this version from support staff and lawyers alike than with any program I have ever used. It is far from intuitive, compared to the older version. The only good thing I have to say about it is a spell checker for billings. Even then, if you don’t use a pre-approved phrase, you can’t officially post your time.
Did a real lawyer actually preview this thing before it was inflicted on the public?
