I went to an Apple store to get them to try and fix my 2 month old iPhone. They will not honor the year warrenty becuase some indicator light on the bottem indicates water damage. They want $200 to fix it. Palm and htc always honored their warranties no matter what happened. Screw apple.

A blog is very useful and cheap way for increasing your web presence.   Instead of forking over $$$ for search engine optimization sign up for a blogging service like TypePad that costs about $10.00 a month.  Throw up your Firms Logo and link it to your website.  If you are attorney in Ocean Springs, MS, make sure to use the words Attorney, Lawyer, Mississippi and Ocean Spring in your postings and keywords.  Once a week, create an entry about some mundane question a client asked you.  In six months to a year, when some Google:  Attorney, and Your City, your name will shoot way up in the ranks. I made the mistake about by a crappy iphone case from speck, which quickly fell apart.  I forgot that Seido makes the best products and I have quickly purchased the Seido Innocase II.  It looks good and is durable.

Reorganized Outlook for Iphone and Netbook use

Where I come from, Outlook is king.  I have rules, colored coded groups, you name it.  However,  I check at least 50% of my email on my iphone or netbook.  In Outlook, it is very easy to read an email and immediately create a To Do or an Appointment.  This is a lot harder in the iphone environment.  That is why I created 4 top level folders Create: Calendar, Contact, Ticket, To Do.  Therefore I can move an email into that needs to be an appointment into the Create Calendar Folder.  I have a rule attached to this folder which automatically sends it to my assistant so she can schedule the appointment. 

I get between 100-200 non junk emails a day and I always go to bed with no emails in my Inbox.

Automatically Starting and Stopping the Amicus PE Service

Every once in a while it is a good ideal to start and stop the Amicus PE Service.  Sometimes Amicus Premium will stop working and no one can get in.  At that point, the only fix is to restart the Amicus PE Service.  I find that a lot of firms just restart the entire server which in default restarts the Amicus PE Service as well as all the other services. 

To make this easier, I have created a Visual Basic Script which will stop and then start the Amicus PE Service.  I have labeled it Click to Fix Amicus.vbs and leave it on the client’s server desktop.  BE AWARE!!!  If you run this while Amicus is working, it will kick everyone out of Amicus.  This should only be run when no one can get into Amicus Premium Edition.  This will not work with Small Firm.

Tech Tip - Outlook - Finding An Email in a Haystack

Seems to be that we all spend too much time looking for information - especially  when it comes to our inboxes. While the searching features in 2007 are much improved, here is a tip that you can use in any version of Outlook to quickly filter and search for emails that are related to a specific person or a specific subject. Right-click on an email, go to Find All, then select either: Related Messages" to see all the emails in your inbox, subfolders, sent items and even deleted items that are threaded to the email you selected. You'll see a new window pop up which will display the results of your search. It will show you the dates of the messages and even the folder where the message is located or select "Messages from Sender" to find all messages from that particular sender. It displays the search results as described above. You can also sort the messages by clicking on the column headers (Received, From, etc).
